Welcome to my webpage. I am Anindita Mitra, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University.I strive to do research that makes a meaningful and positive impact in society, by addressing problems in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, and environmental sciencesThrough my research I try to develop therapies or interventions that can directly or demonstrably contribute to the reduction or elimination of health disparities. My research interests are highly collaborative and interdisciplinary.

During my graduate research under the supervision of Prof. S. C Santra and Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee at Kalyani University and Jadavpur University respectively, I worked on marine actinobacteria producing novel antibiotics and enzymes. Then in  Plasma Medicine Group headed by Prof. Gregor Morfill aMax-Planck Institute, Garching and Klinikum Schwabing in Munich, I used cold atmospheric plasma (CAP)-generated reactive species, charged particles, and photons as physical stimuli for therapeutic purposes. During the period, I evaluated the molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions between these physical stimuli with living cells (bacteria, spore, epithelial cells).

Currently, in Dave Weitz lab, I am exploring to develop different types of immune detection and immune therapy with the assistance of droplet microfluidics. This technique help us the opportunity to assay large numbers of single cells or microorganisms to understand important biological processes that critically depend on the variation between individuals. Prior to that I worked at Levine lab to explore how the composition and structure of microbes remarkably effect on health, taking C.elegans as model system.

I have published my research works in leading journals such as International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, The Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, Food and Bioprocess Technology etc as a lead author or coauthor. I have also been invited to present my works at conferences/ workshops/ seminars in different parts of the world.
The fellowships and awards which I received during my research career includes Max-Planck Postdoctoral fellowships, Junior and Senior research fellowships from University of Kalyani, India.
