My area of research is the impact of new technology (web, social media, EHR/PHR) on patient/provider communication, professionalism, and chronic disease outcomes. Our group has several projects underway, including novel strategies for medical team communication and coordination of care. We are also looking at patient and provider experiences with patient health portals. In addition, we are launching two studies looking at the correlation of social networking updates with perception of chronic illnesses for patients, and looking to define the social norms of acceptable behavior for medical professionals in social media.Â
Our research group publishes a blog available at http://www.themetrc.org.
