Ethan Fosse's research focuses on cultural sociology, inequality and poverty, and statistical methods, with a particular emphasis on the quantitative analysis of culture. Previously he has written about culture and politics, social networks, and computational methods.  Currently he is working on three interrelated projects: first, a cross-cultural analysis of values using millions of respondents around the world; second, a systematic study of the cultural aspects of severe poverty, especially among black youth; finally, a series of theoretical works setting a new agenda for cultural analysis in the social sciences. He is a Junior Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, and Doctoral Fellow in the Multidisciplinary Program in Inequality and Social Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. He has held research appointments at several leading academic institutions, including the University of California, Los Angeles and Social Science Research Center in Berlin, Germany.
