Florian received his MS degree in Microengineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland. In January 2010, he completed his PhD in Computer, Communication, and Information Sciences within the EPFL's Biomedical Imaging Group under the supervision of Prof. Thierry Blu and Prof. Michael Unser.
From 2005 to March 2010, he was a Research Assistant with the EPFL’s Biomedical Imaging Group. From 2010 to 2012, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. In 2013, he joined the Speech, Language, and Multimedia Business Unit at Raytheon BBN Technologies, Cambridge, MA. From January 2014 to March 2015, he led the Computer Vision team at BBN. From 2015 to 2018, he worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Roche Diagnostics Hematology, Boston, MA. He is currently working as a Principal Machine Learning Scientist at Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge, MA.
His research interests include statistical signal/image/video processing, inverse problems, biomedical imaging, computer vision, machine learning, document understanding.
Dr. Luisier was the recipient of a 2009 Young Author Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society for a paper coauthored with Prof. Thierry Blu and Prof. Michael Unser.
