I am on the faculty at Pennsylvania State University and affiliated with the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University.

My research is situated at the intersection of the social and life sciences focusing on the social, cultural, and biological influences on human behavior. My major research themes concern understanding how coordinated behavior emerges from the decentralized decisions of individuals, as well as the biological and psychological bases of violence. I have related research projects on the emergence of norms, institutions, and cultural psychology.  I'm also keenly interested in improving the integration between the social and life sciences, especially advancing theorizing about human behavior through utilizing predictive and testable frameworks.

I have written media publications for the Washington Post, New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere. My research has been covered by the Wall Street Journal, BBC Radio, and the Los Angeles Times, and I have been interviewed by the New York TimesScientific American, and the Washington Post, among others. Please see my lab website for a more comprehensive description of current projects and interests. A copy of my cv can be found here
