My research's aim is to develop integrated electromechanical devices that can provide reprogrammable shape-morphing actuations. To that end, I am currently focused on three topics:

  • Reconfigurable shape-morphing dielectric elastomers that can change their shape in response to a high-voltage electric signal. I develop analysis and design tools for shape-morphing elastomers (forward and inverse problems) and work on their fabrication and optimization.
  • Integration of the control elements for shape-morphing dielectric elastomers. These integrated control elements must be soft, easily patternable and integratable, and operate under high-voltage low-current conditions.
  • Creating novel devices using these reprogrammable electro-mechanical shape-morphing actuators, such as shape-morphing airfoils, optical elements, and wearable haptic displays.
