History 79i: Breaking Headlines: The History of News

Semester:

Fall

Offered:

2011

In a new initiative launched this year, the Harvard History Department awarded me the opportunity to design and teach a reading seminar to Harvard undergraduates on a topic based on my research.

This reading seminar introduces students to the major themes and approaches to the historical study of news from the ‘invention’ of modern newspapers in the seventeenth century to the multiplication of media today. Topics include journalism, propaganda, public opinion, news agencies, radio, television, and Twitter. I received the Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching for my work in this course. Please click on the course title to access the syllabus.
