Hillard T. Spencer, M.D., graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York and completed his postgraduate residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. His major clinical work took place at the Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, as well as at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center & Orthopaedic Hospital, the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Los Angeles, and the West Los Angeles Wadsworth VA Hospital. He performed additional clinical rotations at the Olive View Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley and the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in the South Bay.
He completed additional training in Boston with a subspecialty fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery at the Children's Hospital Boston, including Fellowship Grant support from the Orthopaedic Research & Education Foundation and the Children's Orthopaedic Surgery Foundation.
Dr. Spencer's research interests include biomechanical analysis of fracture configurations, management and complications of pediatric trauma, musculoskeletal diseases of childhood, and development of models for complex spinal deformity. He has published peer-reviewed papers in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, The Spine Journal, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and Instructional Course Lectures. He has authored and co-authored abstracts at national and international meetings.
Dr. Spencer is licensed to practice medicine in the State of California and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
