Economics 2140: Econometric Methods

Econometric methods for cross-section and panel data. Topics include generalized method of moments, empirical likelihood, instrumental variables, bootstrapping, clustering, treatment effects, selection bias, difference-in-differences, qualitative choice, quantile regression, nonparametric methods, and semiparametric methods.

Prerequisite: Economics 2120 or equivalent.

In this course, modelled on the successful "what's new in econometrics" course we taught at the NBER in the summer of 2007, we will discuss developments in econometrics over the last decade and a half.

 

The focus will be on methods that are relevant for, and ready to be used by, empirical researchers, and the course is aimed at such researchers. Although most of the econometrics literature obviously aims to be relevant to empirical researchers, many methods in early stages of development are still subject of debates in the econometrics community. IRP Course: Applied Microeconometrics Workshop

IRP will host an "Applied Microeconometrics Workshop" taught by Guido Imbens, Harvard University, and Jeffrey Wooldridge, Michigan State University. The workshop is modeled on the successful course “What’s New in Econometrics,” which they taught at NBER in summer 2007.
