Jack Hamilton is a Ph.D candidate in the History of American Civilization program at Harvard University, where he is finishing his dissertation, "Rubber Souls: Rock and Roll and the Racial Imagination" under the direction of Professors Werner Sollors, Eric Lott, Ingrid Monson, and Carol Oja.  His research interests include 20th century American and British cultural history, popular music, critical race studies, and media studies, and he has taught classes on the history of American popular culture, African American music, and film.  His work has appeared in Transition, Rolling Stone, GOOD, Salon, NPR, and other venues, and he is a frequent online contributor to The Atlantic, where he writes about music and culture.
