My experience in the classroom is that learning happens when the course material extends beyond the classroom walls. I find that students engage with material when they are prompted to place themselves in their subject’s shoes or understand how an abstract idea from class can be applied to their daily lives. My pedagogical philosophy and practice employs empathy with the people and places we study and analogy to our daily lives to communicate the practice of social science.
