Bio

Hi! My name is Jasmine Hakimian. I live in Pforzheimer House, and I am studying Government. I chose this concentration because it allows me to use examples and theories based on history to explain and even determine solutions for contemporary phenomena. As a student of Government, I sharpen my writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills every day. My academic focus is on comparative politics, and the regions I am most interested in include the United States, the Middle East, and Latin America.

My summer and extracurricular experiences have also revolved around my interest in government and politics. During the summer of 2016, I worked as an intern for Congressman Steve Israel. In his office, I spent the majority of my time working alongside staffers on casework. I reached out to federal agencies, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration, to help constituents resolve specific issues. In the summer of 2016, I also worked on a political campaign. My main responsibilities were to conduct research on federal issues and to write policy briefings and position papers. Additionally, I assisted with voter outreach efforts, such as phone banking and data entry. During the summer of 2015, I worked in local politics by interning for a town board. Throughout that internship, I worked on various research projects for a councilmember. On campus, I work in the Government department as a research assistant.

I am thrilled to serve as a Peer Concentration Counselor in the department! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have about the concentration. I am happy to discuss specific courses and tracks within the department, summer internships, research, extracurricular activities, and more.
