The Bulgarian Victims of Communism Website recently removed some text that I had openly criticized in my work. They also renamed the site from being a Memorial to the Victims of Communism to "Proposography of Political Repression in Bulgarian Territory: 1944-1989." In this gallery, I am preserving the original screen shots from the website before it was changed sometime in late 2013.
Some of the men listed here are responsible for the repression of many Bulgarian Jews and the deportation and deaths of over 11,000 Greek and Macedonian Jews. For instance, Bogdan Filov signed the Tripartite Pact with Hitler, and Petar Gabrovski personally signed the deportation orders for the Jews from Bulgaria's occupied territories to Treblinka. Hristo Lukov and Aleksander Belev were well-known fascists. Yanko Stoyanov and Kocho Stoyanov were responsible for the death of Major Frank Thompson, a British officer who was a prisoner of war and should have been protected by the Geneva Convention.
