Laura Adams' current research focuses on the interactions between globalization and the nation-state in the context of the visual and performing arts. Her book,The Spectacular State: Culture and National Identity in Uzbekistan was published in 2010 by Duke University Press. The Spectacular State won the 2010 Book Award of the Central Eurasian Studies Society as well as receiving an honorable mention for the 2011 American Sociological Association's Sociology of Culture Section Book Award.
Before coming to Harvard, Laura was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown and Princeton, where she taught courses in sociology and Central Asian studies. Currently she is teaching in the Sociology Department and the Expository Writing Program of Harvard University and is an associate at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies where she directs the Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus and chairs the proseminar for M.A. students.
