Lucy Goodhart is a visiting scholar at Brandeis University. She studies comparative and international political economy, looking at which industries receive trade protection and how parties in a coalition govern together. Her most recent research analyzes the political consequences of "labor market polarization," examining how the compression of middle-class incomes has affected support for government spending and taxation. Connected to this, Goodhart analyzes how the clustering of jobs in the creative economy has contributed to growing differentiation across states in attitudes, partisanship and voting, amplifying the trend towards "Red" and "Blue" states. Her research has appeared in International Studies Quarterly, the Quarterly Journal of Political Science and the Review of International Political Economy.
