I am currently a fifth year Mathematics Ph.D. student at Harvard University working with Professor Noam Elkies (expected graduation: May 2013). I am currently applying for postdoctoral positions.
My thesis project focuses on rational points on curves and surfaces over finite fields and combines techniques from number theory, algebraic geometry, and coding theory. I have also worked recently on a project which uses modular forms, specifically weighted theta functions, to prove a result about t-core partitions. I am currently working on a problem about bounds for the density of sphere packings in Euclidean space and for the size of linear codes over F_q^N, and on another project about counting orders in quintic number fields.
My email address is NKaplan@math.harvard.edu
