Tiffany D. Joseph received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 2011 and is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Scholar at Harvard University for 2011-2013. Her research interests include: comparative frameworks of race in the Americas, how immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean adapt to the US racial system, the experiences of faculty of color and women in academia, and immigrants' healthcare access.

Dr. Joseph's  dissertation explored how US migration influenced the racial conceptions for Brazilian return migrants in Governador Valadares, Brazil. She is currently transforming this work into a book manuscript. Her current project integrates explores how documentation status influences the healthcare access and utilization of Latino immigrants in the Boston metropolitan area. In the fall of 2013, she will begin an Assistant Professor of Sociology position at Stony Brook University.

Originally from Memphis, TN, Dr. Joseph is also a graduate of Phillips Academy-Andover (2000) and Brown University (2004-honors). She has also been affiliated with the following programs: Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow (Brown University 2002-2004), Ford Foundation Diversity Predoctoral Fellow (2006-2010), Fulbright Student Grant Recipient (Brazil: 2007-2008), and Edward Bouchet Graduate Student Honor Society (2009-2011). She has received research support from the following organizations: National Science Foundation, Social Science Research Council, and Woodrow Wilson Foundation.
