About

Alex is a Computer Science PhD candidate working with Amy Mueller and Jim Waldo. She is interested in computational sustainability, low-cost wireless sensor networks, and technology for social good. She is working to leverage her skills and prior experiences along with her passion for social justice and environmental health to develop tools for environmental and climate justice.

Her current research is focused on designing and building novel algorithms to determine where to place nodes in urban sensor networks based on constraints such as connectivity, power, location of calibration devices, and the effects of urban form. She is a former member of the Urban Innovation team at Microsoft Research, whose work has been featured in Chicago Sun Times and WBEZ Chicago.
