Ted Bestor awarded Order of the Rising Sun decoration by Japanese government

Japanese government has conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, on Theodore C. Bestor, Reischauer Institute Professor of Social Anthropology and Director of the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies at Harvard University.
The Order of the Rising Sun is one of Japan’s highest distinctions and is awarded in recognition of Professor Bestor’s extensive contributions to the study of Japan and to the promotion of scholarly and educational exchange between Japan and the United States of America throughout his career.

Ted Bestor receives “Senior Scholar” award from the Society of Urban, National, and Transnational Anthropology

Bestor receives the inaugural Senior Scholar/Lifetime Award from the Society for Urban, National, and Transnational Anthropology (SUNTA) committee of the American Anthropological Association. This award honors Prof. Bestor as “one of the most important and accomplished anthropologists of his generation” and his contributions our understanding of urban daily life and its transformation over time.
