New Lab: Open Positions

Recruiting a PhD student in the Learning and Brain Development Lab for Fall 2020

The Learning and Brain Development Lab at Northeastern University in Boston, MA (Lab Director, Juliet Davidow) is excited to invite applications from prospective graduate students to begin in Fall 2020.

A hallmark of adolescence is encountering and navigating new experiences. How does the developing brain support learning from experience? What is most memorable about novel experiences for adolescents? How do adolescents identify the demands of novel situations? When do adolescents draw upon prior learning to meet current goals? What kinds of contextual features (e.g. stress, excitement, sleepiness, friends) change these processes? Our research questions ask how neurodevelopment during adolescence gives rise to shifts in behaviors, including learning, decision-making, and executive functions. For more info see: https://cos.northeastern.edu/psychology/research/cognition/.

We use a variety of tools to ask about neural and behavioral mechanisms, including creative behavioral paradigms, computational models, and non-invasive brain imaging, conducted on campus at NUBIC, a state-of-the-art imaging center with a research dedicated Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma 3T MRI scanner (https://web.northeastern.edu/nubic/about/equipment/).

Candidates should have a degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in psychology, neuroscience, math, computer science, or other related field, and experience conducting research. Previous experience with one or more of the following is beneficial (but not required) and should be mentioned in the application: testing special populations, conducting statistical analyses, working with brain imaging data, and coding in computer languages.

Interested applicants should visit https://cos.northeastern.edu/psychology/academics/graduate/ for more information and https://phd.northeastern.edu/program/psychology/ to apply. Enrolled students are fully supported with stipend and tuition remission for 5 years. Applications are due January 1, 2020. For questions, contact j.davidow@northeastern.edu.
