I made a glass chess set:

The board itself has two layers. There is a lower clear glass layer as a base and an upper checkered layer for the squares. A wooden frame protects the sides and helps hold everything together.

I designed different shapes for the pieces. Here, you see a pawn:

I melted triangle wedges onto the base to hold up the figure before gluing on the figure.
