Pre-doctoral fellow, Harvard Department of Economics
Professor Melissa Dell is seeking a pre-doctoral fellow to work on a project using deep learning-based methods to curate historical Japanese economic and biographical data at scale. The data are being used to understand a variety of fundamental questions about economic development during the 20th century in Japan and beyond.
The position requires excellent programming skills, careful attention to detail, strong communications capabilities, and fluency in Japanese. A background in machine learning is helpful but not required. The applicant must have at least a BA degree. The position is best suited for students who are interested in pursuing a PhD in Economics, Computer Science, Political Science, History, or East Asian/Japanese studies.
The duration of the position is one year, with a possibility for renewal based on performance. The preferred start date is sometime during the summer 2021.
