Dr. Edmund W. J. Lee is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. He is also the recipient of the prestigious College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) International Postdoctoral Fellowship (HIPF) from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore that supports his postdoctoral training at Harvard. Under this talent-development program, he would return to NTU as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information upon the completion of his postdoctoral training in 2020. Dr. Lee also serves as a Global Future Council Fellow at the World Economic Forum advising on the global agenda for responsible big data and media use.

Dr. Lee is a public health communication scientist and his research largely focuses on adopting computational thinking to solve public health problems, particularly on understanding the role of communication technological inventions and how they interact with the communication processes of organizations, networks, and individuals in various health-related settings. In his research, Dr. Lee has collaborated with several multi-national corporations (MNCs) from U.S. and Europe, as well as small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and government agencies in Singapore. To date, his research has examined topics such as media’s role in cancer literacy and prevention, inculcating healthy food consumption through media and interpersonal networks, motivating organizations and individuals to improve workplace safety and health outcomes, cyberhealth risks of social media use, and public’s reception of emergent technologies. 

Dr. Lee's research has won international awards from the International Communication Association, and the McQuail Award from the Amsterdam School of Communication Research for best article on advancing communication theory. He has published in top-tier journals in the field of communication, such as the Journal of Health Communication, Health Communication, New Media & Society, Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, as well as Science Communication. He has also published in other fields, such as the Journal of Nanoparticle Research, and Journal of Risk Research.
