Zhiyuan Sun
Zhiyuan works on theoretical condensed matter physics in close collaboration with experimentalists. He is interested in understanding of many body systems, with a focus on their collective excitations and nonequilibrium processes. Examples of the collective modes are plasmons, excitons, phonon polaritons in graphene and other 2D materials, and the modes arising from symmetry broken phases such as superconductors and excitonic insulators. Zhiyuan is particularly interested in how light perturbs them and further leads to nonequilibrium processes. For example, he has worked on the phenomenon called order parameter steering where light pulses steer the dynamics of symmetry broken phases, switching the system between different states.
