I believe sociological theories have three components: philosophical and epistemological foundation, application in understanding the real world, and power to change the world. This approach in understanding, applying, and enacting social theories has stayed with me as I have begun my own teaching career. To this end, my goal as a teacher is to help students become active learners who apply knowledge from sociological texts to personal and social issues and eventually construct their own views about the world. I strive to ensure that all students have the opportunity to be heard in the classroom and to find their roles both as consumers and producers of knowledge.

*A Note to students: Sociology courses inevitably push students to fully understand sociological theories and apply them to their own lives or to the societies that they live in. For some, this stickiness between theory and reality provokes uneasiness -- However, do not be afraid and take this invitation to a world of sociological perspectives!
