Dipon Das, PhD

Staff Scientist

Dipon received his PhD in cancer biology from KIIT University, India where he studied DNA damage/repair pathways. He completed post-doctoral training at Philips Institute for Oral Health Research, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia, USA. His postdoctoral training focused on identifying the host factors that are essential for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) replication in cervical and head & neck cancers and delineating their mechanism of action. Prior to joining the Faden Lab as a Staff Scientist, he worked as a Senior Research Associate  at University of Miami.

vasileios efthymiou

Vasileios Efthymiou, MD

Postdoctoral Researcher

Vasileios graduated from Athens Medical School, Greece. Before joining the Faden lab, he was an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery resident physician in Athens. In his free time he likes playing basketball, working out and traveling. In the Faden Lab, Vasileios is working to design next generation liquid biopsies.

Daniel Faden, MD FACS

Dr. Daniel Faden is a Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist and Translational Scientist. He completed residency training in Otolaryngology– Head and Neck Surgery at UCSF followed by clinical fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in both Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery and Cranial Base Surgery.  His clinical practice focuses on head and neck and cranial base cancers with a particular interest and expertise in minimally invasive head and neck cancer surgery (TORS, TOLS, endoscopic cranial base surgery). Prior to Boston, he was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar at the National Institutes of Health/ National Human Genome Research Institute and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh under Robert Ferris, MD, PhD.

Shun Hirayama, MD, PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher

Shun completed his MD, and is completing his PhD, at Wakayama Medical University, Japan. Prior to moving to Boston, he was an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Resident in Wakayama. As a postdoc in the Faden Lab, he is focused on tissue and blood based biomarkers for prediction of immunotherapy reponse. In his spare time, he enjoys futsal, driving and traveling.

Julia Mendel

Clinical Research Coordinator

Julia attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, graduating with a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Microbiology. She wrote her honors thesis on constructed genetic networks of differentially expressed genes, focusing on synthetic lethal interactions. When not at work, she enjoys going on long runs, hikes, and reading new books. In the future she plans on attending medical school.

Saskia

Saskia Naegele

Research Scholar

Saskia is a medical student at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University who is spending a year in the Faden Lab. She grew up in New York City and attended Northwestern University where she received a BA in English literature. She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She hopes to pursue a career in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
