Dr. Ionescu is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and a faculty psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). After obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, she completed the first three years of her residency training in adult psychiatry at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. In order to gain further training in clinical research, she completed her residency training and fellowship in the intramural training program at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) as a trainee in the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch. Her clinical research is focused on exploring experimental therapeutics for the treatment of resistant depression, as well as understanding biomarkers for use in the diagnosis and in predicting treatment response in mood disorders.
