About Me

Hello, my name is Jorge! I'm a PhD student in Classical Philology.

My favorite thing is reading Homer in good company. My passion is teaching others to enjoy Greek. My area of expertise is the use of linguistics to better understand how the Homeric poets and their audiences conceived of the language used in their favorite pastime.

My dissertation looks at the synchronic use of Ionic, Aeolic and archaic forms in Homeric poetry. I think I can show that Homeric poets were competent at reproducing dialect forms in real time and that there is very little in the Homeric poems (including apparent deep archaisms) that couldn't have been produced by poets working around the time of the monumentalization of the Iliad and Odyssey.

If you'd like to talk about anything Greek, linguistic or culinary, feel free to drop me a line.
