Sacred and Secular Poetry

I'm very excited that my new course, "Sacred and Secular Poetry," has been accepted by the General Education committee under the rubric "Culture and Belief." The course traces the ways in which traces of the ancient relationship of poetry to religious practices still remain in lyric poetry in the modern period. Needless to say, it will include many of my favorite poets, including Blake and Celan (just to name two). I can't wait to teach the course in spring 2013.
