I
In my General Education course, "Sacred and Secular Poetry," I've gone back to an earlier interest of mine: the poetry and art of William Blake. I spent a long time reading and thinking about Blake when I was an undergraduate, and he hasn't lost his fascination.
The images aboveĀ are, in order: 1. Urizen, the principle of intellect and rationalism; 2. Los, the principle of passion and creativity; 3. Orc, the principle of revolutionary energy; 4. Title page of Blake's long poem, "America, A Prophecy" (1793). For good measure, Urizen appears again below: he's a key image on my course website.
