Kara Grijalva holds a Masters of Education in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her work focuses on early childhood and early grade education, including the critical pathways to improving teaching and learning in environments marked by resource scarcity and political or social instability. Her studies include specialities in bolstering community-driven education systems, teacher professonal development, and curriculum building. 

Previously, Kara worked for a range of iNGOs in over 25 countries including with teams focused on pan-African national education policy advocacy, EdTech research, early childhood health and development, mobile technology for NGO management, and monitoring and evaluation.
