Abstract:

Water is important and unique because it takes part in almost all of the process that form and shape the Earth. Water is also essential to life. Without water, life in all its many forms would not be possible.

Water plays a direct part in many processes, and acts as the host for many more. When acting as a host, water is called a solvent. Water can play host to so many different types of processes that it is often called the universal solvent.

The study of the basic structure of water helps toward understanding why water plays such an important in so many processes. Understanding the special shape and properties of water is essential to understanding many areas of water science. (read more)
