Lucy Ballard is a doctoral candidate in the Study of Religion at Harvard University. Her research is situated in the fields of contemporary Islamic Studies, American religion, and critical racial and ethnic studies. She is currently working on a dissertation that uses mixed ethnographic, textual, and digital qualitative methods to examine contemporary Muslim anti-racist organizing in the United States, investigating how critical Muslim discourses of multiracial solidarity and liberation are informing new modes of ethical formation and political activism. Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC are the primary field-sites for this research. Originally from North Carolina, Lucy holds an MTS in Islamic Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a BA in Religious Studies from Appalachian State University.
