I have advised thirteen junior essays over the years on authors including Daniel Defoe, Laurence Sterne, Walter Scott, Charles Dickens, Herman Melville, Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, H.G. Wells, Joseph Conrad, Virginia Woolf, and Salman Rushdie.
I received the English Department's Francis James Child Prize for advising Moira McCavana's essay on " 'The meaning of that black man sitting apart': The Exceptionality of Race and the Existential in The Nigger of the 'Narcissus.' "
