Michael J. Menconi Jr., HEC-C, is a certified healthcare ethics consultant who specializes in the mediation of moral and ethical conflicts in clinical inpatient settings. He served on the ethics committee of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA where he was a member of the ethics consultation team and directed a clinical ethics needs assessment for South Shore Health System. Prior to his clinical experience, he co-founded the interdisciplinary bioethics blog Student Voicesfor the Fordham University Center for Ethics Education. He is also the co-founder and current president of the Future Child Advocates (FCA) organization, a national university-based advocacy group focused on illuminating issues of child abuse, neglect, and bullying. Mr. Menconi has written extensively on matters involving bioethics and health law, including the contemporary emergence of fetal personhood in the American legal system, inconsistencies in the terminal illness criterion in physician aid-in-dying laws, and the complex intersection of clinical bioethics and therapeutic law. His publications have been featured in numerous journals and academic blogs including the Georgetown University Bioethics Journaland Women’s Studies. Mr. Menconi has received numerous awards for his academic and volunteer work, including the Chynn Prize in Ethics and Morality. He is an active member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities and serves on the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee for the New York State Justice Center. He holds a BS in Psychology from Fordham University, an ALM in Legal Studies from Harvard University, and is currently completing the dual MS-MPH program in bioethics and public health at Columbia University while he considers terminal degree options.
