Madelynn von Baeyer, Ph.D. is an archaeobotanist and a Research Fellow at the Harvard University Herbaria. Dr. von Baeyer's research examines ancient plant macrofossils (seeds, miscelaneous plant parts, and wood) throughout the Eastern Mediterranean, specifically in Turkey and Greece. Her research interests include understanding social complexity, identity, and cultural resilience in response to climate change through plant use.
Dr. von Baeyer's current work at the Harvard University Herbaria is focused on digitizing and imaging the 30,000+ wood slide collection that dates from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. This project will allow researchers from a variety of fields (archaeology, ecology, biology) for the first time to search through a digital record of the collection and view high resolution images of the slides.
