Ming Xiao received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in polymer materials and science from Sichuan University in Chengdu, China in 2012. He graduated with a Ph.D. degree in polymer science from the University of Akron in August 2017. At Akron, he was co-advised by Prof. Ali Dhinojwala and Prof. Matthew Shawkey and worked on a collaborative project, bird-feather-inspired melanin-based structural colors through self-assembly, where he learns physical principles in avian coloration and applies them to create multifunctional structural colors. Now he is a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Vinothan Manoharan Group at Harvard University. He uses both experimental and theoretical approaches to understand the light scattering of disordered structures and applies disordered structures to make wide-angle adaptive camouflage.
