Nazrul Islam wins Vanier Scholarship

School of Population and Public Health PhD candidate Nazrul Islam has won a prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship.

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program, created in 2008, attracts and retains world-class doctoral students and helps establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Scholarship recipients receive $50,000 a year for up to three years of research.

Nazrul’s research topic is “Predictors of online STIs/HIV intervention diffusion patterns across subgroups of young people in British Columbia.” He will examine how variations in societal and cultural factors influence the diffusion patterns of a new online STIs/HIV intervention site – GetChecked – that is being launched by the BC Centre for Disease Control in order to enhance sexual health service provision in British Columbia.

Nazrul’s supervisor is Dr Jeannie Shoveller.
