Bi-weekly seminar on methods of teaching undergraduate sociology for 3rd year graduate students.
I served as the Departmental Teaching Fellow for Sociology in the 2011-2012 academic year. In addition to co-instructing Sociology 305, with fellowship support from the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning, I worked with instructors and teaching fellows in the Sociology department to develop active learning strategies and use formative assessment to improve undergraduate courses. Monthly meetings with the team of peer Fellows from over twenty FAS departments offered a rich opportunity to learn about best practices for college-level teaching across disciplinary lines. I also found that coming together as a multidisciplinary group helped me think in sharper relief about the particular challenges and opportunities facing teachers of sociology.
