HES Students Place 2nd in Hult Prize @ Harvard Competition

The Hult Prize @ Harvard event recruited entrepreneurs across all Harvard schools to create viable start-ups and compete for $1 million in seed capital. A total of 15 teams participated in the competition that took place on Saturday, December 10th

The Hult Prize is the world's largest student competition, which tackles Former President Clinton's Refugees - Reawakening Human Potential and Restoring the Dignity of 10M People by 2022 Challenge.

Unconventional idea from extraordinary students

Scarcity of naturally fortifying fruits and veggies is the biggest cause of malnutrition in refugee camps. Given this fact, the team presented iStrong, a unique blend of fortifying fruits and vegetables served in the form of a snack supplement that is a simple yet very effective solution. iStrong is not an ordinary snack supplement you'd find in the market; it is specially designed to cater to malnourished children. The snack supplements are shelf stable, kid friendly, and require the least supervision.

Their business model was simple, cost effective, and scalable, which helped them secure 2nd place! Next steps for the team are to evaluate if they would like to apply to be considered for the semi-finals. The 1st position winners, from Harvard Kennedy School, received direct entry to the semi-finals.

The team would like to give a special thanks to Harvard Extension School faculty member Michael McCarthy, who helped to coach the team and provide effective feedback, which they considered invaluable. Michael McCarthy is currently a TA for MGMT E-5420 Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business Transformation.
