Mohammad Shahjamali obtained his his Ph.D degree in Materials Science and chemistry from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore in 2012 under the direction of Prof. Freddy Boey and Prof. Can Xue. In 2013, he joined Prof. Chad Mirkin's group at Northwestern University and International Institute for Nanotechnology(IIN) as a postdoctoral fellow. Currently he is a postdoctoral fellow in School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University in Manoharan lab and works on chiral self-assembly of nanowires to make twisted and braided nanostructures in collaboration with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Draper laboratory

His research interest is in the synthesis, optical properties, functionalization and application of nanostructured materials of noble metals, a class of new materials with at least one dimension at the nanometer scale. These materials are sometimes referred to as ‘artificial atoms’ because the density of their electronic states, which controls many physical properties, can be widely and easily tuned by adjusting size, shape, composition, crystal structure, and surface properties. Dr. Shahjamali's research therefore is trying to understand the formation and properties of nanostructures, design and fabricate novel smart and functional materials based on self-assembly.
