About Me

My name is Pawel Kudzia. I am an early career engineering researcher interested in the field of biomechanics, human robotics, sports science and rehabilitation engineering. I am fascinated by the complexity of the human body in relation to musculoskeletal locomotion. Since the times of our earliest ancestors humans have propelled ourselves around this world using our bodies as the main mode of transportation.  Understanding the “how’s” and “why’s” of body locomotion during diverse movement patterns is an overarching topic I would like to devote my research career too.

Currently, I am a PhD studnet in the Locomotion lab at Simon Fraser University under the supervsion of Dr. Max Donelan. I previously worked as a  Biomechanics Research Fellow at Harvard University Biodesign Lab and at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. My research focused on clinical applications focus when a Soft Robotic Exoskeleton is worn on the body. Specifically, I was interested in learning how soft exoskeleton technology can help people who show pathological gait patterns after having had a stroke. By improving the gait of the paretic lower limb, we hope to directly improve the efficiency of patients walking, and in turn the overall quality of their lives.

My passion for understanding and development drives my strong work ethic. I bring forward a contagious enthusiasm to learn. I am always excited about new opportunities where I can apply myself and advance my expertise in the field. I actively pursue courses on interesting science, anthropology and engineering topics on edX. I incorporate meditation and reading into my morning and evening routine, some favourite literary pieces include: Born to Run by Christopher McDougallThe Story of the Human Body by Daniel Lieberman; and The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins . I also love to run, bike, swim and immerse myself in nature, hobbies that dynamically inspire my academic exploration of the human body. I consider myself a well-rounded and personable individual. Thank you for reading and feel free to browse my site and get in contact with me.
