Rachel is a sixth-year Ph.D. candidate in the English Department at Harvard. Her research interests include eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British and European literature and culture; the novel; intellectual history; literary representations of judgment; and the history of social science. She is working on a dissertation on how the rise of the social sciences reshaped cultural understandings of individual agency in Victorian Britain (working title: "Fictions of Selfhood in the Age of the Social Fact").
