Research

My primary research interest and experience is in the field of solid mechanics with a focus on design, fabrication and analysis of soft architected. The rapid development of additive manufacturing technologies enabled us to create new classes of functional materials with complex architectures and unprecedented mechanical properties also called mechanical metamaterials. I use computational tools and experiments to design soft architected materials with extreme shape-transforming capabilities by harnessing geometrical motifs and mechanical instabilities. These structures are fabricated using advanced digital fabrication techniques such as 3D printing and laser cutting and have potential applications in medical devices, space structures and bio-inspired soft robotic systems. My ultimate goal is to build a robust framework for rational design of architected materials for enhanced functionalities.
