Empower Her/ Amman

Background

Empower her is a project that has been developed and implemented by Taghyeer organization as a part of adolescent girls empowerment program in 2015. The main focus of this project is building capacity through civic engagement, peer learning and providing mentoring support for the girls aged between 14-17 years old.

Girls identify challenges in their communities, develop solutions through the writing of a grant, implement the solution while monitoring and evaluating to learn all within a mentoring environment where all players benefit.

Scope

The project is implemented during the summer Jul - Aug. The flow of the sessions will be as follows:

  1. Preparatory workshop:
  • One day
  • Given by Mentors and advisors
  • Icebreakers
  • Food breakers
  • training includes:
  1. values and core concepts
  2. girls are divided into groups to identify challenges they face
  3. girls share the challenges on a flip board
  4. girls in new groups come up with solutions to challenges
  5. girls share the solutions on a flip board
  6. grant is introduced
  7. girls are divided into new groups to work on submitting a proposal to the committee on one of the solutions they come up with
  8. instructions on how to write a proposal are given
  1. Grant preparation by each group with one mentor to help  (10 days)
  2. Submit grant to advisory committee by giving a presentation and a written proposal.  Advisory board weight 70% voting by girls 30%. One project wins.
  3. All girls work together on the winning project for 40 days
  4. At the end the girls have to make a presentation and a written report on the project
