Dr. Rana Participation In Nairobi Summit

November 15, 2019

The Governments of the Republic of Kenya and the Kingdom of Denmark, together with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund convened the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25: Accelerating the Promise, as it marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the landmark Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) from 12 to 14 November 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Summit intended to galvanize change and mobilize leadership in addressing persistent and emerging challenges related to the ICPD Programme of Action. It also aimed to mobilize political and financial momentum to advance the ICPD agenda as integral to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular around harnessing the demographic dividend, reducing preventable maternal and child mortality, the unmet need for family planning and eliminating violence and harmful practices against women and girls.

Dr Dajani participated in two events as a speaker. The first panel is Mental Health and Pyscho-Social Support on Tuesday, 12 November 2019.

The second panel is Translating Commitments to Action: A Leading Role for Academia to Accelerate Global Development, that is being co-organized as a side event by UNFPA, the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School and the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. This panel intended to highlight the key role that universities and education institutions play in generating the knowledge, analysis, and expertise needed to accelerate the ICPD Programme of Action and the implementation of the SDGs as a universal and interlinked agenda on November 13 at Aga Khan University in Nairobi, kenya.
