Science and Social Change Webinar with Dr. Rana Dajani

September 23, 2021

Dr. Rana Dajani, one of the world’s leading Muslim women scientists, have participated in a discussion session around how scientific literacy and thinking can impact humanitarian work and social change. She highlighted the discovery of a specific type of stem cell which allowed researchers to reverse-engineer cell fate, and discussed why a similar breakthrough might also be possible in the pursuit of gender equality. She also discussed the idea of seeking a paradigm shift in how we define success based on human biological diversity. This session is not purely about science. It is about how science and activism can be united to affect social change.

This webinar was presented as a brief English language video, featuring Dr. Dajani’s TEDx talk on the subject, followed by a live question and answer session in English with Dr. Dajani, moderated by Alex Dutton, Phoenix Space’s Head of Education. Phoenix Space is a non-profit organization that strives to complement the traditional STEM education-focused lectures with sessions that highlight the intersection of science, personal empowerment, and societal change.
