Story of a Picture/ Zaatari camp

Background

Story of a Picture is a project that has been developed and implemented by Taghyeer organization as a part of adolescent girls empowerment program in 2016 & 2017. The main focus of this project is to empower refugee girls aged between 12-17 years old to tell their stories through giving the girls the tools they need to capture photos of their lives inside the camp and write stories about these photos. Then all these stories and photos will be compiled in a book and given back to the girls.

Scope

The project is implemented during the months of April – May of each year. The flow of the sessions will be as follows (six sessions held on the weekends):

  1. The first session is an induction session where the girls will learn more about the background of the program.
  2. The second session is the writing workshop with a professional writer to discuss the best practices in writing a story.
  3. The third session is the photography workshop with a professional photographer to discuss and learn the basic skills of photo shooting.
  4. The fourth session is a reflection session about the final drafts of the stories, discussing with each other what would be the best photo to choose,
  5. The fifth session is writing the final draft of stories and brainstorming on the final design of the books.
  6. Sixth session is a celebration of the journey and handing the girls their books.
