Two new publications!!

Just got accepted two of the publications that were under review!! They'll both be published in the next volumen of the Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society. One manuscript explores the phylogenetic relationships and diversification timing of a Gondwanan family of harvestmen, Pettalidae, and includes samples collected for more than 15 years of field expeditions. In the other manuscript the main characters are earthworms, and sheds light on the evolutionary pressures shaping the gut morphology in this family of Mediterranean oligochaetes. Congrats to all the co-authors in these two...

QUEST FOR ORTHOLOGS

I've just learned that I was selected as a recipient of a grant to go to ETH Zurich with the developers of one of the best orthology inference softwares (personal opinion): Orthologous Matrix (OMA). Next spring, I'll spend one month working with Adrian Altenhoff and Christophe Dessimoz unraveling the evolution of some interesting gene families in several invertebrate groups.

Very excited about it!!

SUMMER UPDATES

Good morning everyone! Several interesting things happened this summer. Here's a brief list of them:

- Evolution 2015: I attended the Evolution meeting held in Guarujá (Brazil) at the end of June. I had the opportunity to chair a wonderful session on Phylogenetics that included very good talks about plants, vertebrates and invertebrates (although we all know that I prefer invertebrates!). Also, I came back with tones of great ideas for new projects. You'll need to wait some months to see some results, though ;-)

- First meeting of the International...

PHYLOGENOMICS OF RICINULEI: PAPER ACCEPTED!! :-)))

My paper on phylogenomics of ricinulei got finally accepted, YAY!! This is my 4th paper on phylogenomics of arthropods. Hope to have some more interesting projects to share soon! :-)

Feel free to ask for the corrected proofs of it.

Fernández, R., Giribet, G. (in press). Unnoticed in the tropics: phylogenomic resolution of the poorly-known arachnid order Ricinulei (Arachnida). Royal Society Open Science.

Talk about the arthropod tree of life @ Postdoc Science Club

Next week I'll be giving a talk about my recent advances in unraveling the arthropod tree of life at the Postdoc Science Club of Harvard & MIT, so if you're around Cambridge and want to listen to some stories about how arachnids and myriapods evolved join us next Thursday (May 21st) at 16:30 in the Northwest building, room 425.

Special thanks to the organizers for inviting me to give this talk!

Welcome to my newly edited web page!

After almost two years and a half in Harvard, it was about time to have a better web page! From now on, I will publish here my news about talks, publications or interesting results. I'd love to hear your comments about them!
