kim ivākhilalokakīrtitaṃ kathayaty ātmaguṇaṃ mahāmanāḥ /
vaditā na laghīyaso 'paraḥ svaguṇaṃ tena vadaty asau svayam //
Why should a famous man his virtues tell?
The whole world knows and lauds them all too well.
But for the lesser man another is wanting
To sing his praise, so he must do the vaunting.
